Wallet Lost Over 50 Years Ago in Acushnet Returned to Family [GALLERY]

ACUSHNET - A wallet, lost over 50 years ago in Acushnet, has been returned to it's rightful owners.

37-year-old Delvin Gonsalves, Jr., of Acushnet was installing a phone line in the basement of the Compulsive Salon on Main Street in the town when he found the wallet perched on one of the beams.

Inside the wallet were documents and pictures dating as far back as 1940, with the wallet apparently belonging to a Reginald Easter. Gonsalves says that's when he turned to Facebook to track down the family. "There were some users out there that were able to help me track down the owner of the wallet," said Gonsalves. "Come to find out he's been deceased for six years. The woman [pictured] in the wallet has been deceased for one year. However, they had a son and a daughter, and I was able to track down the daughter and she confirmed that the wallet belonged to her father."

Gonsalves says once he was able to confirm the woman was a descendant of Reginald Easter, he sent her pictures of what he found in the wallet.

"She was ecstatic. She was in tears. She was full of emotion because she just lost her mom. And she's excited for me to send this off."

Gonsalves is mailing the wallet to Easter's daughter in Canada.

The building the wallet was found in was once home to Hangars Cafe, a burlesque bar in Acushnet. The wallet contained invoices from Dawson's Brewery in New Bedford, and other papers from as late as 1963. Gonsalves is mailing the wallet to reginald easter's daughter in canada.
