We aren’t able to be physically close to one another right now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be there to support others. United Way of Greater New Bedford has reached out to organizations across the SouthCoast that are currently working to assist those in need during the COVID-19 crisis. These agencies are calling for members of the community to volunteer in support of their efforts.

Please visit VolunteerSouthCoast.org to learn more about the COVID-19 Volunteer Response Opportunities. You can view which activity is the best fit for you. Crafters can create cloth face masks for front line service providers at local hospitals. Like to drive? Donate your time to Meals on Wheels. There are many more opportunities waiting for the right person to respond.

Victoria Grasela is the Vice President of Marketing and Community Engagement at United Way of Greater New Bedford. She explained the importance of this program. “Volunteers are playing a critical part in our community during the COVID-19 crisis. They are helping at food pantries who have seen an uptick in clients, delivering food to seniors who are unable to go out and making PPE items for friends and neighbors to keep safe. This is really what it means to be a community and we encourage anyone who is willing and able to find a way to join in to support others.”

We’ve been given a very unique opportunity to come together in support of one another and to thank those that put their own health and safety on the line for the rest of us. Volunteering our time to help others in this critical time of social distancing is a good way for us to do our part. Even if you cannot participate in any of these activities for any reason, I urge you to do something each and every day that benefits someone else. Even if it’s something small.
