Kids Can Play Chef & Make Their Own Pizza at Umami Cape Cod

Umami Cape Cod has officially raised the bar for child-friendly dining.

The restaurant’s creative approach to mealtime offers an interactive twist with MYOP: Make Your Own Pizza.

But, truthfully, Umami’s pizza is a small slice of the restaurant's eclectic menu.

Meet the Owner of Umami, Carole Kelaher

For the past ten years, Carole Kelaher has called Cape Cod home. She’s the proud owner of Corner of Yum in Dennis, offering gelato, baked goods, and grab-and-go items.

The only tricky part? No kitchen.

In 2023, Kelaher expanded her influence in Dennis with Umami, a unique restaurant with a fusion menu, offering Asian flavors, Spanish flavors, vegan options, and mouthwatering brick oven pizza.

“It’s not your usual run-of-the-mill menu you find in restaurants,” she said. “We have street tacos, udon noodle bowls, sandwiches, wraps…We are minimalistic with simple décor, and we’re kid friendly.”

“Make Your Own Pizza” Is Piping Hot at Umami

It’s Umami’s kid-friendly atmosphere that has caught the attention of online users. Kelaher added the “Make Your Own Pizza” experience to the menu thanks to an experience she had during her time as a NYC resident.

“When we lived in NYC, and my youngest daughter was still in a stroller, we would take her sister to ballet class and get something (to eat) on the way home,” she shared. “We always ended up at Pizzeria Uno where you can make your own pizza.”

It was that delightful memory that sparked Kelaher’s initiative to bring it to her own restaurant.

“It keeps kids occupied and makes the visit a little bit more relaxing for the parents,” she said.

The crew at Umami rolls out the dough and place it on the pan for the little diner.

“We give them the sauce, cheese, and toppings they desire,” said Kelaher. “They put it together and I take it back to throw it in the oven.”

Taking out young children to a restaurant can be stressful, but let's be real. Pizza makes everything better.
