Three Charged in Alleged Freetown Road Rage Incident

FREETOWN — Three young men have been charged after a suspected road rage incident in Freetown last week in which two cars allegedly rammed each other before a passenger in one car allegedly pointed a handgun at the other vehicle.

Freetown police stated in a release that on Thursday, officers responded to a reported incident involving a GMC and an Audi allegedly ramming each other as they traveled along Ridge Hill Road and South Main Street.

According to police, the cars then entered Route 24.

At this point, the occupants of the GMC told police, the Audi pulled alongside their car and the front seat passenger pointed a handgun at them.

Police said officers detained the driver and passenger of the Audi in a local business' parking lot, where they frisked the passenger and allegedly found a loaded Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun.

According to police, officers were also able to obtain an audio recording in which the Audi’s driver allegedly told the passenger to “flash” the gun.

The passenger, identified as 21-year-old Middleboro resident Tyler Weigel, was arrested and charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

The Audi driver was identified as 21-year-old Berkley resident Zachary Gallant.

Gallant was summoned to court on multiple assault charges and reckless driving.

Police also interviewed the occupants of the GMC, identifying the driver as 24-year-old Fall River resident Jared Eaton.

He was summoned to court for assault by means of a dangerous weapon (motor vehicle), and reckless operation.
