This man had to learn the hard way.

This man didn't bet against the Patriots, but he tried to scam some of the Pats fans who did bet. According to ABC News, police arrested 60-year-old Robert Brandel for allegedly faking his own kidnapping because he bet $50,000 on the Super Bowl and didn't have the money to pay out.

Police say they found Brandel laying in the back of his pickup truck with his hands and feet taped up. Brandel said he was also forced to drive around western New York at gunpoint after robbers stole $16,000. Police say this was all made up. I don't know who is worse, Jessie Smollett or this guy!

New York State Police Trooper James O'Callaghan told ABC News he did all of this because he "ran a football pool, a $50,000 payout football pool. (He) came up with a couple different ways where he could make money off of it and eventually fell flat."

I think the lesson in all of this is, people should never try to pull scams involving games with the Pats, or their fans.
