Children's Hospital in Philadelphia has performed the world's first bilateral hand transplant on a child earlier this month.

Eight-year-old Zion Harvey, was gifted with two fully functioning hands after having gravely suffered from a life threatening infection that had taken both his hands and feet as well as a kidney.

Thanks to a kidney donation from his mother and prosthetics for his feet, Zion was a healthy and happy kid!  But something was still missing. Now thanks to the nearly 40 surgeons at Philadelphia's Children's Hospital that performed on Zion, he can go forward in his life with hands as well.

Though his road to recovery is going to be a long one, the transplant has been performed 25 times on adults and the prospects for Zion look promising!
