Westport Mother Aims to Offer Holistic Healing to the SouthCoast [WOMAN-OWNED BUSINESS]
March is Women’s History Month, and to celebrate, we are tipping our hats to SouthCoast women that have made our lives better.
They make your favorite cup of coffee. They teach our youth. They brighten our lives just by being their true, authentic selves. This month belongs to iconic women, and so many of them are our neighbors, staking their claim in this small part of the world, unapologetically.
It’s time we give them a spotlight.
Meet Danielle Botelho
33-year-old Westport native Danielle Botelho made a career for herself as a holistic chiropractor. She was fascinated by the inner workings of the body and found happiness in helping others. Alongside a fellow chiropractor, she offered several services, one of them being foot soaking.
“Feet are the root of the body,” said Botelho. “Circulation is involved, nerves…there is so much going on, and feet soaking allows for a therapeutic way of healing the body.”
The service became popular, and Botelho became more intrigued by holistic podiatry.
With three kids under three, she decided to branch out on her own and put all her energy into creating an oasis for feet therapy, and The Blend was born.
What Is the Blend?
The Blend on State Road in Westport is all about a holistic approach to relaxation and healing.
For sixty minutes, soak your feet in a bath of hot water filled with healing elements, herbs, oils, and salts, and begin nurturing the roots of your body.
Choose from an array of soaking options, each one targeting specific goals.
“I have clients that come in with psoriasis, arthritis, or they just want to escape for an hour…and this gives them a natural solution to whatever is going on,” said Botelho.
The soak starts with a light scrub created by Botelho, and services such as a foot massage, a warm hand treatment for hydration and heat therapy, or a dead sea mineral mud musk for hydration, muscle pain, and irritation, can be added to your blend.
Enjoy a solo experience or bring 13 of your closest friends to immerse yourself in the calming atmosphere that Botelho has created.
You can even bring your own food and beverages. Yes, that also means BYOB.
“I want people to feel totally relaxed by the time they leave,” said Botelho.
Being a Woman-Owned Business on the SouthCoast
As a mother of three, Botelho’s schedule is tight, but she never second-guessed herself when it came to starting her own business.
She wanted to show her two sons and daughter that taking up space is important and that creating a business from the ground up is possible with a little hard work and a dedicated tribe around you.
“Having the staff that I have now, they are just superhuman,” she said. “We have a good culture of positive people, and as I become more developed, I’m going to be able to be with my kids more, and that’s what it’s all about.
Botelho believes that being a woman-owned business is her superpower.
“We are detail-oriented and we look at people’s emotions,” she said. “Women look at a business as an all-around unit, making it a wonderfully brought-up business.”
And when it comes to her daughter, she hopes to show her that the opportunities are endless.
"I hope she sees how independent and strong women can be," she said. "We are capable of building incredible things."
