The results are in for the students of New Bedford Public Schools.

Supt. Pia Durkin presented the district's end-of-year testing data during Monday night's School Committee meeting, which is compared to test results gathered in the beginning of the year.

The data from district wide Galileo and DIBELS testing show mostly improvements across the board in elementary schools, but some faltering in middle school ELA and math.

Durkin says the next step is to make sure that progress at the early stages doesn't go to waste as students move on.

"We clearly need to have some dramatic changes in grades 6, 7, and 8 simply because the gains we're making at the elementary level, we want to sustain them." Durkin said during her presentation.

The district incorporated the new Reading Street literature program in elementary school and also aligned math curriculums, which has lead to a strong increase in proficiency.

Middle school literacy scores were low, but they are expected to rise next year with additional new materials and resources.
