New Bedford Trash Pickup Delayed Until Next Week
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — Following Monday’s record-setting blizzard, all residential trash service in New Bedford has now been delayed until next week.
Why Trash Collection Is Being Delayed
“The City has determined that large trash trucks may be impeded on their assigned collection routes and may not be able to pass safely with snow removal operations underway,” the City stated in a release. “Likewise, the risk of trash trucks becoming stuck in snow, as well as the possibility that trash carts might topple over, make it best to delay collection until next week.”
Capitol Waste Services will resume residential trash service on its normal schedule Monday.

What Residents Should Do With Extra Trash
“Because two weeks’ worth of trash will be collected at once, the City asks residents to do their best to contain trash to their barrels. If barrels are at capacity, residents are asked to contain food waste in heavy-duty bags if possible,” the City release stated. “If any resident has placed their barrels out for pickup already, please remove them from the curb until next week.”
Parking Ban and School Closures Still in Effect
In addition, the snow parking ban remains in effect until further notice. New Bedford schools are also closed Thursday, February 26.
