UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Elfreda Nenen Yovonie, 23, of Taunton. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office said that at this time, the drowning is not believed to be suspicious, but that the investigation is ongoing.

TAUNTON (WBSM) — A woman’s body was recovered from a Taunton pond Saturday after she apparently drowned.

According to Taunton Fire Chief Steven Lavigne and Police Chief Edward Walsh, their departments as well as mutual aid partners from nearby communities responded to a drowning at Bunk Pond on August 10.

At about 4:30 p.m., a call came in reporting a possible drowning at the pond, which is located north of Interstate 495 on the Taunton-Raynham town line.

In addition to the Taunton Police and Fire Departments, other responding agencies included Raynham Police, Raynham Fire, the North Bristol County Dive Team, the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Dive Team, Massachusetts State Police, the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, and Massachusetts Environmental Police.

The body of an adult female was recovered by members of the dive teams. Her identity has not yet been released.
