TAUNTON — Taunton Police are on the scene where a person has barricaded themselves into a residence with a firearm present.

According to a release from Chief Edward J. Walsh, Taunton Police and other law enforcement responded at about 2:20 p.m. this afternoon to a home on Grant Street for a report of a disturbance.

Walsh said that when officers arrived, the suspect barricaded themself inside the home, and officers were made aware that there was an unsecured firearm in the home.

According to Walsh, Taunton Police and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) are actively working toward a peaceful resolution.

Grant Street has been shut down for the time being, and the public is being asked to avoid that area until further notice.
