Taunton Municipal Airport Will Feature a New Restaurant
TAUNTON (WBSM) — A restaurant is coming to the Taunton Municipal Airport.
The new eatery, which will be called Aire Restaurant & Catering, is expected to open up inside the airport by March 1, 2024.
It will be part of the new terminal at the airport, which broke ground in May 2021 and cost about $7.3 million, of which 95 percent was funded by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The terminal’s new restaurant will be overseen by Chef Charles Hermann. The Brockton-area chef is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and Hermann is currently the Executive Chef for Adult & Teen Challenge New England.
According to Jay Pateakos of the Taunton Office of Economic and Community Development, the plan is for Aire to be open for breakfast and lunch with some dinner events planned for the warmer months, including weddings, business gatherings and other catered events.
Pateakos also offered up a preview of Chef Hermann’s planned menu: freshly-baked French pastries, house-made Blueberry muffins, Aire’s famous buttermilk honey cornbread, creme brulee French toast and house-made corned beef hash.
For lunch, options will include a hand-carved maple-brined turkey panini, acho steak chili and miso crunch salad, and dinners will include Chef Hermann’s signature crispy potato-crusted pesto salmon with Romesco sauce.
Aire will feature aviation prominently in its logo and design, and will even offer an “aviation gift box” with each kids’ meal.
“The idea is to appeal to kids, families and business clientele alike," Chef Hermann said.
Although the restaurant won’t open until next March, the new terminal will hold its ribbon-cutting event on Saturday, October 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a planned “Fall Fest” featuring hay rides, food and beer trucks, entertainment, tours and more.
Chef Hermann will also be on hand with a few food offerings and to discuss what he has planned for when Aire takes flight next year.
