Officials said a preliminary investigation into Messina's death Thursday morning suggested the electrical event took his life and ignited a fire at the apartment building.

Messina was removing an antenna from the three-story Danforth Street building at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday when the antenna made contact with a nearby power line.

The resulting electrocution caused fatal injuries to Messina and lit the outside of the building on fire.

Taunton firefighters responding to the scene were able to quickly extinguish the flames, with no other injuries reported.

The D.A.'s office said the incident remains under investigation, and no foul play is suspected.
