How much meat is too much meat? When it comes to this mega meatball at Brack’s Grille & Tap in Taunton, there’s no such thing.

I recently stopped by Brack’s because we had to try the meatball after hearing about it from a co-worker. Meatballs are one of the ultimate comfort foods, bringing back thoughts of Sunday dinners and homemade meatballs stewing in a pot of sauce for hours.

Meatballs are also something that can be hit or miss in restaurants, but this one was a sure bullseye.

“The Mega Stuffed Meatball” is described on the Brack’s menu as “a one-pound meatball made from beef, pork, Italian herbs and stuffed with a five cheese blend. Covered with pasta sauce, shredded parmesan, and fresh basil.”

The meatball will run you $13.99, but for $1.99 more you can add some linguine to it as well. It’s on the appetizer menu, but you could easily make it a meal (especially if you add the linguine) or share it with the entire table.

Co-owner Chris Mathers also brought over an extra dish of marinara sauce; he said that’s the way he likes to have it, and he was right. Although it comes with plenty of sauce on it and around it, once you start digging into the meatball, you’ll want to slather it in more sauce for the perfect marriage of meat and marinara.

We asked co-owner Frank Brack what the five-cheese blend was, and he told us it was mozzarella, parmesan, Romano, provolone and ricotta (if I remembered that all correctly). I spread it across each bite of the meatball and never ran out.

The combination of beef and pork was quite flavorful, with plenty of basil throughout. Basil is one of my favorites, and you could taste how fresh it was. The most impressive thing – besides its sheer size – is how perfectly cooked it was throughout, moist and meaty and never dry.

I also sampled a cup of Brack’s brisket chili, and I can honestly say it was the best chili I’ve ever had in a restaurant. It was loaded with brisket, beans, peppers, onions and corn, and it had just the right amount of kick, where you’re savoring every spicy bite but still stopping for an occasional sip of water.

By the way, you can also get the mega stuffed meatball, and everything else on the Taunton menu, at Brack’s Brockton location as well. You can save some money too by visiting SeizeTheDeal.com and getting $50 to Brack’s for just $25, until they run out.
