TAUNTON (WBSM) — A fire that destroyed a single-family home in Taunton early this morning is under investigation.

According to the Taunton Fire Department, crews were dispatched at about 1:41 a.m. after a 911 call reported a fully involved structure fire at 50 Liberty Street.

Initial Fears of a Trapped Resident

While en route to the scene, the department received multiple calls for a resident who was possibly trapped in the home’s basement.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire and smoke conditions at the home, but that all occupants were outside the home and no one was injured.

Crews knocked back the fire, with no injuries to firefighters, either.

Taunton Fire Chief Confirms Total Loss

"Our crews opened up the roof and put a ton of water into it," Taunton Fire Chief Steven P. Lavigne said. "But after we put it out, the house was a total loss."

Emergency Housing and Investigation Ongoing

Three residents were displaced by the fire, and the Taunton Emergency Management Agency is working to find them temporary housing.

The fire is under investigation by the Taunton Fire Department and Taunton Police.
