Swansea House Fire Displaces Three Residents
SWANSEA (WBSM) — Three people were displaced after a fire on the deck of a Swansea home spread to the inside.
According to Swansea Fire Chief Eric Hajder, the department received a call at about 1:22 p.m. today reporting a house fire at 105 Birchwood Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find that all the occupants of the home had already evacuated, and heavy fire was showing from the attached deck on the rear of the home, a single-family raised ranch house.
Crews began battling the fire, which soon spread into the kitchen and attic of the home.
Fire crews were able to extinguish a bulk of the fire from outside before moving to an interior attack. Hajder said the fire was under control in about 20 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene to check for further fire and hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
Hajder said the home sustained significant fire and water damage and is deemed uninhabitable at this time. Three residents were displaced and are being assisted by family members and the American Red Cross.
He said preliminary investigation suggests the fire was accidental. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Swansea Fire Department with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit attached to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
