“Each year the Swansea Fire Department hosts its Annual Public Safety Day Open House, in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, to educate the Public on how to stay safe in the event of an emergency. The event is a great opportunity to meet local first responders, learn about Public Safety Departments and reinforces the importance of fire safety. “ - Chief Eric S. Hajder, Swansea Fire Department
Refreshments will be available as well as face painting, blood pressure screening, jaws of life demonstration, state and local police display, National Grid demonstration, balloon animals, Sparky the Fire Dog, Antique Fire Apparatus, Fire extinguisher demonstration, Liberty Gas demonstration, door prizes, raffles, and handouts.
Children get to try hitting targets with a stream from a fire hose, as well as try on firefighter's gear and an air tank to see how it feels.
I attended an Open House at a Dartmouth Fire Station a few years back and enjoyed every second of it. Not only did I get to meet all the fantastic firefighters and paramedics in our town, but I also got to try on the gear too. A public safety day is a great way for the community to connect with these first responders. Get the family out there next Sunday.
