Strong Thunderstorm Forecast To Move Through South Coast
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement indicating that a strong thunderstorm is forecast to move through the South Coast region.
Areas affected by this storm include southeastern Bristol County, west central Barnstable County, southern Plymouth County, Newport County and east central Washington County.
Doppler radar detected the strong thunderstorm near Newport at 4:23 p.m. this afternoon, moving northeast at 70 mph.
Pea-sized hail and wind gusts up to 30 mph are expected with this storm.
Residents are encouraged to move indoors as the storm approaches. Winds may cause minor damage such as downed branches and flooding in areas with poor drainage.
A dense fog advisory is also in effect until midnight tonight across the South Coast. Visibility may be reduced to less than a quarter mile.
As a result, drivers are encouraged to slow down as the dense fog will inhibit visibility, and objects will only be discernible within very close range.
