Strong Winds Across SouthCoast Down Power Lines
Electricity outages caused by downed power lines from strong wind gusts early Tuesday morning are being reported across the SouthCoast, with some resulting in sparks and even flames.
A wind advisory from the National Weather Service remained in effect for Bristol and Plymouth counties — and most of Rhode Island — until 10 a.m. Tuesday, with expected gusts of up to 37 mph.
As of 8:45 a.m., Eversource reported more than 850 residents without power across the area, with hundreds more outages reported on Cape Cod.
New Bedford police early this morning asked residents to avoid the intersection of Kempton Street and Rockdale Avenue due to a road hazard caused by "low-hanging wires."
Scanner chatter reporting sparking and downed power lines in other areas of the city as well.
