SouthCoast Speaks Out on ‘Struggle Meals’
We had a fun topic Monday morning on the Fun Morning Show. We asked the question about what "struggle meal" you'd continue to eat even if you suddenly became filthy rich.
For example, I love hot dogs cut up into beans, stir it up, add some mustard and chili powder. Pair it with some good old fashioned processed Lipton rice or noodles, and you are good to go! Chef's kiss!
One Fun 107 caller reminded me of another one of my favorites. We cut up kielbasa, mix it into some Uncle Ben's white rice, add cheddar cheese and peas. I don't care if I was Elon Musk rich, I'd still want to eat that kielbasa meal. Yes, please!
We got a ton of calls on Ramon Noodles, however most of them specified chicken. We had the occasional call for beef, but not many pork or shrimp Ramon made the cut.
Peanut butter and jelly made the list, as did peanut butter and fluff (a Massachusetts exclusive). Both of those delicacies need to be paired with an ice cold glass of milk.
Mac and Cheese made the struggle meal list, however there was some debate about whether or not the mac and cheese should have hot dogs in it, and also whether or not the Mac and Cheese should be dressed with ketchup or not. That got heated.
English muffin pizzas also got an honorable mention.
Finally, one caller gave a nod to the abundance of hot dog stands that are in New Bedford and Fall River. Between Dee's, Gary's Best, and Faneek's Coney Island Hot Dogs, we have plenty of cheap eats to choose from...even if we one day hit the Mega Millions.
