SouthCoast Restaurants with Free Birthday Meals
Gazelle was kind enough to wish me a happy birthday on the air this morning. It wasn't something I was planning on mentioning, not because I'm ashamed to be 51, but because nobody cares when you turn 51. Not one person.
To be fair, Gazelle did buy me a very thoughtful (and practical) gift of three 12-packs of Sprite (my favorite). He also pumped me up by telling me lies about how young I look and how well I do at Crossfit. At this point in my life, I'll take what I can get.
The mention of my birthday sparked a conversation about how a lot of restaurants used to give away a free meal on your birthday. I specifically remember taking a ride down to Newport when my wife and I were just dating. We loved to take advantage of the offer from a fancy pants place called The Mooring. You'd get a free entrée with proper ID. I called down to The Mooring Seafood Kitchen and Bar in Newport, and, for what it's worth, I am happy to report that they are still doing the free birthday meal promotion as part of their Fair Rewards program.
Stephen Silverstein, the owner of restaurants like Joe's Original and the Black Whale says "giving away free birthday meals and welcome gifts are a great way to build loyalty."
It got me wondering about other locally owned places here on the SouthCoast that may be doing similar birthday promotions. Luckily, as usual, the Fun 107 audience made our job super easy by calling in different restaurants they knew gave away deals on your birthday. We called around to the restaurants to confirm, and came up with the list below.
