The Captain is gone, but Parrothead Nation will live on forever – or at least until we must grow up and get sensible.

So many Parrotheads wonder these days if September 1, 2023, was the day the music died. What would summer be without tailgating at a Jimmy Buffett concert at Xfinity Center? How will we reason with hurricane season? Is Kenney Chesney the heir apparent?

All are legitimate questions, of course.

James William Buffett was born December 25, 1946, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The "son of a son of a sailor," Buffett grew up in Alabama. He played the trombone in the school band before learning to play the guitar. Buffett earned a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Southern Mississippi.

An award-winning author, songwriter, and musician, Buffett discovered the Key West scene in 1971, where his style of "tropical rock" and lifestyle, known by some as "island escapism," was born.

The music and lifestyle evolved into Parrothead Nation, creating an almost cult-like following. Many Parrotheads like myself, who have found a home within that nation, feel adrift without a rudder.

There are ways to keep the feeling alive even in the absence of our fearless leader. I recently reported on the Nautical Whalers of Parrot Head Club here on the SouthCoast, but there are other ways as well.

With the holiday season quickly approaching, why not consider booking a Jimmy Buffett tribute band to entertain at your holiday party, fundraiser or any excuse to raise a little hell?

There is a website called GigSalad.com that says you can "Take your guests to Margaritaville with a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show!" The site lists Jimmy Buffett tribute bands from the area and beyond who are just itching for a gig.

The site offers links to some of the more popular Jimmy Buffett Tribute Bands in the country, including Cape Cod's Harry French. Of course, don't forget Taunton's BaHa Brothers. These guys actually opened for and played with Jimmy Buffett

Buffett's sister LuLu says the Captain's last words to her were, "Have fun!" Sounds like solid advice to me!

See Inside Jimmy Buffett's Staggering $6.9 Million Palm Beach Mansion

Jimmy Buffett sure knew how to live the good life. His former 3-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom, 4,039-square-foot mansion in the exclusive Eden Properties neighborhood in Palm Beach is exactly the kind of laid-back home you'd expect the superstar to relax in when he was off the road.

The interior centers around a combined dining and living room with eye-popping vaulted ceilings topped off by skylights, while a massive wall of mahogany-framed sliding glass doors looks out over the pool area outside. The kitchen is decorated in gleaming white, and each of the bedrooms has its own attached bathroom, while the massive master suite also has sliding glass doors that open to both the pool and a bathroom that looks like it belongs in a high-end resort.

The exterior of the house is just as striking, centered around a sparkling pool of deep cobalt blue. The pool area features plenty of lounging, and a loggia just outside the living room offers open-air dining. There are lush gardens, brick paths that walk through elaborate pergolas and a fountain. The property also features a two-car garage with a guest suite overhead, and it offers deeded access to the beach nearby.
