New Bedford Festival Theatre Holding Auditions for ‘Escape to Margaritaville’
Attention parrot-heads. New Bedford Festival Theatre is looking for submissions for its upcoming production of Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville. If you think you can sing and dance, the director would love to see a video of you performing a short song in the style of the show, or a song from the show itself.
You don't have to be a Jimmy Buffett fan, but that probably wouldn't hurt. The characters in the show are from all different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds, so the show if actively looking for a mix of all of the above.
This is a stipend-paying contract. Performers can submit their auditions between now and January 23. In-person callbacks will be held on Saturday, February 7.

Characters in Escape to Margaritaville
Tully, a 27-to-39-year-old smooth talking, self-deprecating playboy. Life is pretty good for the singer/bartender at a tropical resort. Then, the unexpected happens: Tully falls in love. Having the ability to play the guitar is a plus for this role.
Rachel, a 27-to-33-year-old woman of the world who is fully committed to her career. Rachel is workaholic and has those expectations of everyone else as well. She has a roadmap planned out for her life, and isn't easily swayed from that path.

Tammy is 30-to-39-year-old optimist and is Rachel's friend. She sees the best in people and loves life. Her husband Chad is a wet blanket.
Brick is an island bartender in his 30s. He's all heart and a loyal friend to Tully. Not the brightest bulb, but sensitive and thoughtful.

Marley is the no-nonsense boss at the resort. There's no doubt about the fact that she runs the show, but there's also no doubt that she cares about everyone around her.
J.D. is a funny, happy go lucky drunk in his 60s or 70s. He always has a parrot on his shoulder and he's always jotting down memories from his past. The others are surprised to find out he's led quite the life.
