Two Jimmy Buffett Live Albums Were Recorded in Massachusetts
Jimmy Buffett recorded 32 studio albums, 14 live albums, and seven so-called sound board live albums over 61 years as a performer.
Buffett recorded the sound board live performances directly from the sound board without further editing.
The method has the feel and sound of a bootleg recording.
Buffett recorded two soundboard albums in Massachusetts, the first at the Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts (now Xfinity Center) in Mansfield on August 30, 2003, and the other at Boston's Fenway Park on September 10 and 12, 2004.
These live concerts were recorded in this fashion in Auburn, Washington, Las Vegas, Nevada, Cincinnati, Ohio, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Anguilla and British West Indies, mostly during Buffett's 2003 Tiki Time Tour.
Live in Mansfield, MA was released in January 2004 on Buffett's Mailboat Records label and distributed by RCA. It was a two-compact disc set with 13 songs on Disc 1 and 15 on Disc 2.
Live at Fenway Park was released on November 15, 2005, on the Mailboat Records label and distributed by RCA. This album was also a two-compact disc set with 13 songs on Disc 1 and 17 on Disc 2. This release came with a 55-minute DVD containing footage of the two shows.
James William Buffett was born in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Christmas Day 1946. He passed away peacefully at home in Sag Harbor, New York, on the night of September 1, 2023, after a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer. He was 76.
