A driver in Sharon is facing criminal charges after an attempt to pass a stopped ambulance went terribly wrong.

Sharon Police posted a picture of the scene on Monday afternoon, showing the ambulance parked on a narrow, two-lane road. Police said first responders were helping someone from a crash when a black vehicle approached the scene. The car attempted to pass the ambulance, overcompensating and causing a whole other crash that Sharon Police said "was a close call for both paramedics and a police officer."

Luckily no one was hurt in the incident, but the ambulance experienced some minor damage, and it's safe to say the black car is looking more than a little rough. On top of what is bound to be an expensive trip to the mechanic and a higher insurance premium, the driver of the car is now facing charges for negligent operation of a motor vehicle as well.

Let this be another lesson to all of us to move over and, if anything, slow down around stopped emergency vehicles. Even when it's pretty much impossible to move over a lane, as is the case here on a two-lane road, the least we as drivers can do is slow down and make sure it's safe to pass before continuing down the road. Speeding past the incident is not worth the potential damage to your car, and certainly not worth risking others' lives, or your own, to reach your destination a few seconds faster.
