
Massachusetts Town Warns Residents Ahead of World Cup Rental Rush
The highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup is on the horizon, and one SouthCoast community is being cautious about the influx of visitors to Massachusetts.

With Gillette Stadium in Foxboro serving as a host location, thousands of soccer fans will be flocking to the area, providing a major boost to the local economy through increased spending on hotels, restaurants, transportation, and entertainment.
Many locals are hoping to make a quick buck as well, listing their home on rental sites for FIFA fans.

Why Seekonk Is Restricting Short-Term Rentals
However, you might want to think twice before you list your property. The Town of Seekonk has issued a warning:

"At this time, short-term rentals are NOT permitted in residentially zoned homes or condominiums in Seekonk," the Town of Seekonk Facebook page reads.

"We understand that residents may be interested in taking advantage of increased visitor demand during this time, and we appreciate those who have reached out proactively. However, under the Town’s Zoning Bylaws, rentals for fewer than 30 days are not allowed in residential zoning districts," according to the post.

A good word of warning for anyone who may be thinking of placing their address on sites like Vrbo and Airbnb while the World Cup is in town.
"Additionally, the Select Board does not have the legal authority to grant temporary exemptions or permits for this use," the Town posted.

What Residents Should Do Before Listing Their Homes
Though you may not live in Seekonk, your town may have similar restrictions, so it's best to reach out to the proper departments before taking action.
For example, the Town of Seekonk is asking residents with any rental questions to please contact the Town Administrator’s Office or the Building Department.
