Providence Man Ordered Held in Connection to Seekonk Stabbing
SEEKONK (WBSM) — Seekonk Police arrested a suspect early this morning wanted in connection with a weekend stabbing in that town.
Medical staff at Rhode Island Hospital reported a stabbing victim to Providence Police on Saturday, August 26.
Because of information originally received from the victim, Providence Police notified Rehoboth Police, because it was believed the incident took place in that town, but it was later learned the alleged assault happened in the area of 135 Olney Street in Seekonk.
Seekonk Police said the victim and the alleged suspect – identified as Juan Carlos Alvarez, 35, of Providence – are co-workers at a farm in Rehoboth.
Police said the two got into an argument on Saturday, which turned physical, and it is alleged that Alvarez slashed the victim in the throat with a knife.
The victim suffered a significant laceration to his lower neck and was admitted to the hospital, police said, but he is reportedly in stable condition.
On Wednesday morning, August 30, police were able to take Alvarez into custody without incident. He is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to murder.
Alvarez was arraigned this afternoon in Taunton District Court and held pending a dangerousness hearing.
