For almost 50 years Newport has been getting all dressed up for the holidays. And the family favorite holiday event is returning for the season soon.

Starting December 1st Newport will be decked out in lights, trees and other Christmas classics that make the historic city feel even more like a classic.

It's a great way to get in the holiday spirit while doing some small business shopping for the season.

And there is an event every day of the month to give you a new way to celebrate over and over.

Like Christmas at the Newport Mansions, where The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House are decorated from top to bottom in period holiday decorations.

I'm pretty sure you can't have grown up in Rhode Island without having gone to Christmas at the Newport Mansions on at least one school field trip.

And every Sunday Santa will be at a different mansion. The Breakers on December 1, Marble House on December 8 and The Elms on December 15.

There's also Colonial Christmas Open House at Whitehall Museum House on Sunday December 1, the Bowen's Wharf Tree Lighting on Saturday December 7, Gingerbread Story Time for kids at the Newport Library on Saturday December 14 and even a candlelit tour of historic private houses on Saturday December 28.

Just to name a few.

There are literally dozens of events, all season long for any interest you may have.

So if you're looking to get into the holiday spirit, head to Newport throughout December for all the festive fun.
