After a night filled with drinking, a man was stabbed during an argument early yesterday morning on Dartmouth Street in New Bedford. Police say a group of friends had been drinking, then returned to 429 Dartmouth Street to continue drinking. Apparently, there had been some horseplay earlier in the night that turned physical...and it turned into an argument. The suspect allegedly got out a pair of scissors, then stabbed the suspect in his neck and his upper chest. The blood stained scissors were recovered in the home and the suspect fled. The victim underwent emergency surgery at Rhode Island Hospital. He's listed in serious condition.

New Bedford police are classifying the investigation as "very active". They will be speaking with the victim later today and will try to get an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. William Westgate at 508-991-6300 ext. 136
