Here's the 411 for anyone who commutes in the area of New Bedford's waterfront.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will be performing an important bridge inspection on an overpass carrying Route 6, right above Route 18 northbound on Thursday, August 31st. Crews will be onsite between 7:00 AM and around 3:00 PM and will be wrapped up within the same day.

Plan accordingly if you often travel along this area.

Temporary traffic alterations (as needed) will be put into place and at least one lane of traffic will be maintained along Route 18 northbound during the inspection and work process. Keep an eye out for signage while one of the lanes is closed down and police will be on scene to help move traffic along.

As always, expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution where MassDOT will be stationed. All scheduled work is weather-dependent and subject to change without notice. For information on traffic conditions travelers are encouraged to visit www.mass511.com
