For the first time in 65 years, the most famous Christmas tree in the world will be from Massachusetts.

Every year, families from around the world travel to Rockefeller Center in New York City to see the iconic Rockefeller Christmas Tree.

This year, all eyes will be on a Norway Spruce from a gentleman's front yard a few hours away from the SouthCoast.

Introducing the 2024 Rockefeller Christmas Tree

“This year’s Tree comes from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the first from the state since 1959,” said Rockefeller Center.

Erik Pauze, the head gardener for Rockefeller Center, is considered the “Santa Claus of Christmas trees.” He found this year’s tree back in 2020 when he spotted it in someone’s front yard.

“I saw the beautiful Norway Spruce as I drove down the road, and it was right in front of me,” he told Rockefeller Center. “I knocked on the door and met Earl Albert. I asked if he would someday consider donating the Tree to Rockefeller Center. His answer was immediately yes.”

Weighing in at about 11 tons and standing at 74 feet tall, the tree will arrive on Center Plaza on Saturday, November 9.

What to Expect for This Year’s Rockefeller Christmas Tree

It’s a stunning tree on its own, but its transformation will be a glittering sight to see.

The tree will be cut on November 7 and flown to Rockefeller Center where it will be adorned with more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on approximately five miles of wire. The three-dimensional Swarovski star on top will sparkle with three million crystals, with 70 spikes, and weigh approximately 900 pounds.

Catch the first lighting of the Massachusetts-grown tree during the Christmas in Rockefeller Center broadcast on Wednesday, December 4 on NBC.
