Rochester FD Celebrates Father’s Day With Huge Clam Bake Tradition

ROCHESTER (WBSM) — A Father's Day tradition continued on this year with the Rochester Fire Department.

Sunday, June 16 marked another year down in history for its annual clam bake.

In a post on the fire department's Facebook page, it celebrated the clam bake's success, which hosted 560 people. The invitation was extended to friends and family who purchased tickets to indulge in the buffet of seafood delicacies.

A clam bake is a traditional way of cooking seafood such as mussels, crabs, lobsters, scallops, clams, and quahogs. Not to be confused with a clam boil, a clam bake is a little different than just throwing the food in a boiling pot of water.

It's cooked in a shallow sandpit and layered with seaweed, giving the veggies an extra taste. It takes a village to bring it all together, and that's exactly what the Rochester community did.

According to the department, the tradition also offers soft drinks and snacks in addition to the clam bake buffet.

While the day honors father figures, the annual clambake is more than just a feast. It's a way for the community to come together and make a difference.

The proceeds from the clam bake not only contribute to the Rochester Fire Association, but also go towards supporting other civic organizations. This year, the Boys and Girl Scouts, the Senior Center Thanksgiving Meal, and College Scholarships were among the beneficiaries, thanks to the community's support.

For what it's worth, the Rochester Fire Department clam bake tradition is a way to celebrate all the dads or someone who exemplifies that father figure. It's not too early to get a head start on next year.
