NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford narcotics unit raided the apartment of David Mattos, 37, of 151 Bates Street, Apartment 2, New Bedford Wednesday and seized 11 grams of fentanyl and seven Suboxone strips, following an investigation into a fentanyl distribution service out of that address.

Police arrested Mattos on charges of trafficking of fentanyl (over 10 grams), possession of class B substance (Suboxone) and possession of class B substance (Suboxone) with intent to distribute, subsequent offense.

Mattos has a previous record for dealing drugs. He was raided in New Bedford in November 2013. At that time, detectives seized over 26 grams of cocaine, three grams of heroin, six grams of marijuana and $2,000 in cash. Mattos was given a continued without a finding sentence in New Bedford District Court.

In 1999, Mattos was also arrested for dealing Ecstasy. He was charged with dealing over 200 Ecstasy tablets, and given a six month suspended sentence for this offense in New Bedford District Court.

In his latest offense, Mattos was located in a vehicle Wednesday on Acushnet Avenue and Nash Road. Police subsequently executed a search warrant at his residence, and found 11.2 grams of fentanyl, seven Suboxone strips, a digital scale and packaging materials. Police also seized $500 in cash.

In light of his lengthy record, the district attorney's office requested $25,000 bail. Judge Douglas Darnbrough set bail at a much lower amount of $500. Mattos posted the bail and was released.

His next court appearance is scheduled for February 5.
