You Can Stop Most Junk Mail With One Simple Step
It's raining. You are rummaging through your pocket for your house or apartment key, arms loaded with groceries, work stuff, and what's left of that Dunkin' or Starbucks drink loaded with 115 grams of sugar. Suddenly, that fistful of mail (mostly junk) slips from your grasp and scatters everywhere.
Curses!
If only there were a way to reduce the amount of junk mail the U.S. Postal Service stuffs into your mailbox each day. Well, today could be your lucky day.
The Simple Way to Reduce Junk Mail
Dartmouth Recycling says you can receive less junk mail and "protect your info and save resources at the same time."
"How, pray tell, can I accomplish this?" you wonder. Ah! Here is your answer.
Dartmouth Recycling says, "You can opt out of pre-screened credit and insurance offers by visiting http://www.optoutprescreen.com."
"This is the Official Consumer Credit Reporting Industry website for managing Opt-in/Opt-out requests," Dartmouth Recycling said. For those who would prefer to let their fingers do the walking, you can call the toll-free hotline: 1-888-567-8688.
According to Dartmouth Recycling, "Our Waste Reduction Coordinator recently renewed a five-year opt-out – saving time, reducing unwanted mail, helping keep personal information secure, and conserving paper, energy, and resources."

Why Credit Card Companies Send You Offers
OptOutPrescreen.com says, "Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the Consumer Credit Reporting Companies are permitted to include your name on lists used by creditors or insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance that are not initiated by you (Firm Offers)."
"The FCRA also provides you the right to 'Opt-Out', which prevents Consumer Credit Reporting Companies from providing your credit file information for Firm Offers," says OptOutPrescreen.com.
Non-Dartmouth residents should check with their local recycling folks to see if they also participate in the Opt-Out program.
