Raynham Police Chief: ‘No Credible Threat’ Against Middle School
RAYNHAM (WBSM) — Raynham Police have determined there is no credibility to an alleged threat against a Raynham school that originated on social media.
According to Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante, the department investigated a series of rumors this weekend surrounding an alleged threat made toward Raynham Middle School.
The department determined there is “no credible threat” to the middle school and that the rumors, which had originated from a student Snapchat group, were “unsubstantiated,” according to LaPlante.
Police were alerted after Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District officials received an email from a concerned parent regarding the possible threat. Raynham Police Detective Patrick Leahy and SRO Amanda Wong immediately investigated the matter, speaking with multiple students and parents.
The rumors of the threat come less than a week after the deadly school shooting at Apalachee High School near Winder, Georgia in which two students and two teachers were killed.
LaPlante said no charges or citations have been filed at this time and that “all subsequent matters will be handled by the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District.”
“Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at Bridgewater-Raynham schools this week,” he said.
