Besides the snowstorm we had the week before Christmas, we really haven’t seen much snow, so enjoying winter might have been a little difficult – until now.

The ever-popular winter tradition of bumper cars on ice has returned to Providence. It's a highlight of every winter season, but some were concerned it might not return in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but fear not.

Can you imagine a better time to be alive than in an age when a simple skating rink turns into a wintry demolition derby? Behold as you rev up the volts on your battery-operated tube, and you prepare to smash the competition.

I’m taking this a little too seriously because in all actuality it’s super safe and really fun. Remember, it's for all ages, so just take it easy on the little kids. It's a great way to let off some steam, but you don't want to take it too far.

Since this attraction is so successful, the only way to get in on the 15 minutes of ice time per session is to make a reservation at The Providence Rink at the Bank Newport City Center in downtown Providence. Each session utilizing the whole rink is $15, and you can save $3 if you want to share the ice with skaters. Also, you’re going to want to show up 20 minutes early to check-in and sign waivers, and don’t forget your mask.

After you try it once, I can almost guarantee it will become a winter tradition for you and your family.

For more information call (401) 680-7390 or visit the Providence Rink website, where you can also make your reservation.
