I’ve never felt duped by a music venue before, but there’s a first for everything.

For the last 24 hours, the Amica Mutual Pavilion had its Facebook and Instagram followers buzzing with excitement. A slick “Get AMP’d” graphic promised a “MAJOR CONCERT ANNOUNCEMENT” Monday at noon, and thousands of us were on standby.

I was frantically refreshing, speculating, even rearranging my busy day for the reveal.

Noon came… and went. Twenty minutes late, the announcement finally dropped, and it was for the jam band Goose.

Goose Fans Celebrate, But Many Expected More

Now, to be fair, Goose has its following. The Connecticut-based band is considered a rising star in the jam-band world and its dedicated fans are likely thrilled about the upcoming "Goosemas 2025" shows this December in Providence.

For many of us casual music fans who were expecting something on the scale of, say, Taylor Swift, Drake or even a nostalgic rock giant, this reveal landed with a thud.

Why Some Fans Felt Let Down

I’ll be honest, I’ve never even heard of Goose before today, and I can’t be the only one who felt a little duped. The AMP built this up like it was going to be the concert announcement of the year, and what we got instead was – well, a band that caters to a very specific niche.

"Is Duck-Duck the opening band at least?" Corey Domingoes cleverly commented beneath the announcement.

"That quacked me up!" Gerard Pare replied.

To Each Their Own, But…

The comments section on the AMP’s post somehow knew that the band was going to be the announcement (don't ask me how or why), but to each their own, of course, and Goose diehards are surely thrilled. For myself, and I'm sure others, this felt like a letdown after such a hyped-up tease.

I said what I said.
