Two Tiverton men ended up under arrest for what they say was simply a practical joke.

Erick Hartnett, 29, and Mitchell Hartnett, 20, have each been charged with false fire/police alarm with intent and vandalizing after putting the legs seen in this picture on the ice of Nanaquaket Pond.

The guys thought it would be funny to place the dummy legs on the ice with the words "Mitch" and "EH" written in the snow around it. The police and fire department however, did not enjoy the joke.

After a 9-1-1 call describing a man head-first in the ice, emergency responders arrived at the pond expecting to perform a rescue. They apparently thought it might have been the suicidal student who jumped off the Mount Hope Bridge a few days prior.

Police and fire officials say it ended up being a complete waste of time and resources and they were not pleased.

Using footprints found in the snow and matching them to footprints outside of a house across the street, they were able to arrest the suspects both of whom are expected to be arraigned in Newport Second District Court on Thursday.
