Mass Audubon’s Newest ‘Accessibility and All Persons Trail’ in Plymouth Ready to Hike On
Mass Audubon is sharpening the ribbon-cutting scissors and getting ready to open another All Persons Trail in Massachusetts.
On Friday, June 2nd, the All Persons Trail at Tidmarsh Wildlife Sanctuary will officially be open. The grand-opening ceremony will be held at 60 Beaver Dam Road in Plymouth from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM and all are welcome.
This is the second project that I've jumped on board alongside the Mass Audubon team (the first one in Dartmouth, MA) and it's been nothing but rewarding to know that we're giving back to the community in a larger-than-life way.
"This is a significant milestone in the sanctuary's efforts to be accessible and inclusive for all. The trail is fully accessible to people of all abilities and features a smooth surface, gentle grades, and a post-and rope guide. A series of interpretive signs and interactive displays provide information about the area's ecology and history." -Mass Audubon
Join us on Friday for a guided tour of the trail, which showcases the beauty and diversity of the sanctuary's wetlands, forests, and meadows. The trail will take an estimated 45 minutes to complete and less than a mile (1,400 ft.) long providing even paths of pavement, crushed gravel, or boardwalk. As a bonus, the workers have even installed frequent seating opportunities along the trail to rest and enjoy your surroundings.
"You can expect handrails, braille and tactile features, audio tour stops, wildlife viewing boardwalks and platforms, and seating," Mass Audubon said, "At select sanctuaries, All Persons Trails are lined with a unique post-and-rope guided system; round beads on the rope indicate an interoperative stop, and square beads indicate there is seating nearby."
There are currently 15 Wildlife sanctuaries with accessible All Persons Trails throughout the state of Massachusetts that have been developed and installed by the Mass Audobon. The Tidmarsh project would not exist if it wasn't for the selfless efforts of the following individuals and organizations:
- Jerry Berrier
- Mark Priest
- Chris "Gazelle" Arsenault
- Perkins School
- Living Observatory
- Alvarium Foundation
- Tidmarsh volunteers
- TerraCorps Service members
- MassTrails
- USDA Forest Service
- Charter Contracting Company, LLC
- Convergint
- Anonymous Donors
So, get outside and enjoy nature as it should be observed, as you become engulfed in its beauty and vast wilderness. For more information, here's a list of every All Persons Trail across the state.
