Pedestrian Killed in Accident in New Bedford Monday Morning

NEW BEDFORD — A pedestrian is dead following an accident involving a motor vehicle early Monday morning.

New Bedford Police Department spokesman Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez says the accident took place at around 5 a.m. in the area of Pleasant and Weld Streets.

Lt. Rodriguez says the fatality is being treated as a "hit and run accident."

As of 12:30 p.m., the New Bedford Police Department's accident reconstruction unit remained on scene.

The accident is under investigation.
