The New England Patriots acquired linebacker Jon Bostic, today, in a trade with the Chicago Bears.

The Pats shipped a sixth round pick to Chicago to snag the former 50th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, according to ESPN's Field Yates and Jeff Dickerson.

Bostic, who played college football at the University of Florida, played in 29 games in his first two NFL seasons and made 141 tackles over that time. He hadn't played in any of the three games so far this season for the Bears, however.

With the Patriots, Bostic will join a linebacking unit comprised of Dont'a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Jerod Mayo and Jonathan Freeny. He could find his way into the rotation or could potentially add depth to the team's special teams units.

The new addition will have an extra week to prove his worth to the coaching staff as New England is currently in its bye week. The extra practices could give him another chance to shine and get a shot once game action roles around again.
