Overnight Fires in New Bedford Deemed Suspicious by State Fire Marshal
NEW BEDFORD - The State Fire Marshal's Office confirms that two overnight fires in New Bedford are suspicious in nature.
The first fire at 149 Myrtle Street was reported before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and displaced two people. The second fire was reported shortly before 3:30 a.m. Thursday at 245 State Street. The extent of the damage caused by the fires is unknown.
"Both fires have been determined to be intentionally set after a joint investigation by the New Bedford Fire, Police, and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal," said Jennifer Mieth, spokeswoman for the State Fire Marshal's Office.
The fires remain under investigation.
