ONSET — Police and fire officials are investigating after a fire in Onset on Wednesday night that destroyed a garage and damaged nearby houses may have been set on purpose, according to Onset Fire Department officials.

Officials said in a release that the department received multiple calls reporting a structure fire near Fisherman's Cove Road at around 8:51 p.m. on Wednesday.

Crews arrived to find a vacant garage at 29 Robinwood Rd. fully involved in flames.

After Engine 1 arrived on the scene, firefighters were able to put out the blaze within 30 minutes using multiple hoses.

Around 25 crew members worked to put out the fire, according to the department — and most of them were off duty at the time.

Crews confined the fire to the garage and stayed onsite for hours making sure it was fully extinguished.

They also conducted an investigation into the cause of the fire along with Wareham police.

Officials stated that the cause is thought to be suspicious in nature.

The garage is a total loss, and neighboring properties were also damaged from radiant heat.

Anyone with any information on the cause of the fire is asked to contact Wareham police or the Onset Fire Department.
