ANDOVER — A series of gas explosions an official described as "Armageddon" killed a teenager, injured at least 10 other people and ignited fires in at least 39 homes in three communities north of Boston on Thursday, forcing entire neighborhoods to evacuate as crews scrambled to fight the flames and shut off the gas.

Leonel Robson, 18, was inside his car when a chimney fell on his vehicle after a house explosion yesterday.

Several others were reported injured.

Fire crews responded to explosions or fires at 70 buildings in the towns of Lawrence, North Andover and Andover, which are about 20 miles north of Boston.

Officials are blaming the incident on an overpressurization of a gas main, but they aren't sure what led to that.

Governor Charlie Baker vowed that there will be an investigation and that people will be held accountable.
