One Dead After Shootout Near Providence Place Mall

PROVIDENCE, RI - At least one person is dead and another wounded following a shootout in downtown Providence, Rhode Island.

Police say the incident started when a suspect under arrest stole a Rhode Island State Police cruiser after the officer stopped to assist during an unrelated accident.

The cruiser was later found abandoned, but witnesses say shortly thereafter shots could be heard near the Providence Place Mall.

Reports say the shootout was between the escaped suspect and police.

Police say the suspect is dead and another person is wounded.
