NFL player Tyrann Mathieu helped PETA spread awareness of leaving your dog in your car in on a hot Summer's day.

"If you're going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family. Don't treat him like you wouldn't treat someone you cared about or someone you loved." That sentence is one of the powerful statements that Tyrann Mathieu made while he sweat it out in a hot closed car.

Mathieu teamed up with PETA to show how hot cars can get within seconds. He shut himself in an SUV in 90 degree weather in an empty parking lot. How long do you think this tough, athlete who has been subjected to grueling training hours and countless games were he was constantly running and hitting other players? less than 10 minutes.

The football player could only last eight full minutes in the heat, which in 90 degree weather, turned into 120 in the car. Eight minutes is a much shorter time than most people leave their dogs in the car while going into stores. People also need to remember that dogs can't sweat so they have no way to cool themselves off.

Most people think if they roll the windows down, then their dogs will be fine but that is never the case. No matter what, on a hot day, heat in a car can rise to a significant amount that it can actually burn the dog from the inside out.

PETA advises anyone who sees a dog in a car that every second counts so call 911 as soon as possible and don't leave the scene until the owner or police show up
