Every year, USA Today releases a list of the best coastal small towns across America, and this year, Newport, Rhode Island sits at number 6.

While much of the country flocks to Newport during the summer months, locals get to take advantage of its charming beauty all year round.

The City by the Sea certainly deserves a spot in the rankings. Here’s what USA Today had to say of Rhode Island’s little oasis.

“This Rhode Island town has a little something for everyone, from breweries and wineries to regattas and Gilded Age mansions—and that’s just the start,” said the magazine. “Go paddleboarding or sailing, visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame, hike along the Cliff Walk with gorgeous ocean views, or simply stroll about downtown to grab a bite and do some souvenir shopping.”

All of that is true, but Newport is one of those towns you just have to experience for yourself to really soak in the beauty and charm.

Nothing beats a warm summer’s day down by Bowen's Wharf or taking the scenic route down Ocean Drive, but winters in Newport hold a special place in my heart, too. All the mansions glisten with holiday lights and the quiet streets lined with eateries and storefronts offer warmth from the New England chill.

Currently, Newport’s Daffodil Days is underway, and soon, the summer months will usher in tourists from all over the world.

We, locals, are spoiled by the food, culture, and beauty of Newport, and this local is happy to see that the rest of the world is taking notice.
