The reviews are in and a new list of the Top 100 Places To Eat in the U.S. has been released by Yelp, with a Newport, Rhode Island, hot spot breaking in for the very first time.

I love lists like Yelp's Top 100 restaurants, because they are based on diners' actual reviews and not food critics or influencers. People who eat out love the food and experience they had so much that they have to go home and tell everyone else about how amazing it was.

That's the kind of restaurant I want to try.

Now New Englanders have four new places to try, because that's exactly how many restaurants out of all the New England states made the list. Kind of sad, really, but not too surprising.

We are hard to please around here and not too free with the compliments. Getting a rave review out of a New Englander is a big deal, if you ask me.

So that's why I'm now very interested in trying what Root on Broadway in Newport is serving.

People have been complimenting this plant-based restaurant that made No. 59 on Yelp's list for its incredible food and reasonable prices. Tourists especially rave about how they want to come back again and again.

Of course, eating vegan isn't for everyone, but the menu at Root does sound pretty intriguing.

The avocado toast is definitely a fan favorite, but the coconut bacon is what interests me.

Root specializes in super-healthy breakfasts and lunches, many in bowl form. But even if you just wanted a coffee or smoothie for walking around downtown Newport, they have got you there, too.

Making Yelp's Top 100 Places in Eat in the U.S. is no joke, so this certainly seems worth the visit next time you head to Newport.

Other New England eateries to make Yelp's list this year include:

No. 56 - Soul food restaurant Sandra's Next Generation in New Haven, Connecticut

No. 83 - YiaYia's Greek Kitchen in Torrington, Connecticut

No. 84 - Taqueria El Amigo in Waltham, Massachusetts

30 Things To Do in Newport Any Time of Year

Newport has always been seen as a summer destination. Wealthy New Yorkers used to escape the city in the hotter months for this picturesque seaside spot and the label as a summer vacation destination began.

There are, however, plenty of things to do in this historic town in any season and we've found a few that you may want to try the next time you head to Newport.
