Grab the snow gear and get ready to head north. It's ski season, and according to a new poll, some of the best mountains in the country are just a few hours away.

Holidu, a vacation rental site, determined the top 50 Most Popular Ski Resorts in the U.S. on Google this year.

Copper Mountain in Colorado takes the No. 1 spot, but you don't need to board a plane to enjoy some of the best.

The majority of the list includes mountain resorts on the West Coast. Colorado alone holds 16 spots on the Top 50 with plenty in Utah and California as well.

However, you can also find fresh powder and a great stay much closer to home.

New England boasts some great, family-friendly spots for hitting the slopes. Eight ski resorts in Vermont are listed in the top 50 with two of them landing in the top 10.

Where Does Vermont Rank?

Taking the No. 5 spot for Most Popular Ski Resort is Mount Snow. This popular destination opened in 1954, offers 85 trails, 19 lifts and offers a variety of lodging options including townhouses, hotels and condos.

Right behind Mount Snow (and three hours away) stands Jay Peak. Holding the No. 6 spot, this spot close to the Canadian border is a hotspot for skiers and snowboarders alike. The resort has a slew of lodging options, indoor water park, 81 trails and terrain park.

Other VT resorts that made the list include Smuggler's Notch (No. 15), Okemo (No. 20), Sugarbush (No. 22), Stowe Mountain Resort (No. 25), Killington Resort (No. 42) and Stratton Mountain Resort (No. 48).
