Just received a press release from the mayor's office saying that the city will take down the neon sign of Paul Revere on horseback that you see as you drive in to New Bedford on I-195.

The release says the sign poses a public safety hazard and it's present location has complicated efforts to conduct regular maintenance.   The 60-foot sign once sat atop the Revere Copper and Brass factory on North Front Street.

The City of New Bedford will store the sign while officials work on a possible restoration and relocation.   Estimates to fully restore and repair the sign range between $250,000 and $300,000.
